Promotoras – Community Health Advocates

Since 2007, Puentes de Salud has nurtured a powerful network of Promotoras, community health workers, who serve as trusted guides, educators, and advocates for Latine immigrants in South Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

Trained in health education, patient navigation, mental health screening and culturally responsive communication, these deeply connected leaders bring preventive care and wellness guidance to the community.

Trusted Leadership, Community Impact

At Puentes, we believe that no one understands a community’s needs better than those who are part of it. The Promotoras Initiative is rooted in trust, leadership, and advocacy, ensuring that our outreach is accessible, transformative, and led by those closest to the issues.

They offer one-on-one counseling, lead workshops and events and serve as a vital bridge between patients and providers, especially in moments when cultural nuance and emotional trust matter most.

A Two-Way Bridge

Promotoras carry messages from Puentes into the community and they in turn, also bring the community’s voice back to us. Their feedback helps us adapt programs, respond to emerging needs, and remain accountable to the lived realities of those we serve. This bidirectional flow is essential to our model of care.

Extension of Services

Promotoras play a pivotal role in Puentes’ Health Care and Wellness Programs, helping individuals navigate lifestyle changes, disease management, and emotional resilience. Their presence within the clinic fosters comfort and trust and strengthens the clinic experience.
